Player Participation and Attendance
Every child must play half of each game,
and no child can play all four quarters unless every child has played three
quarters. Please follow this rule. Every team has players who are not as
gifted as some, but do not take this out on them. Take turns sitting out your
players so that no child sits out more than others. Help all players feel good
about themselves.
Only play
children who are listed on your roster. Anyone else will not have signed a
release, and do not have insurance coverage. We try to keep our teams small so
that each player will get to play as much as possible.
If you are
short a player, call the registrar or the division commissioner. We may have a
waiting list of children who would like to play. Please do not try to find a
player on your own as our waiting list has first priority for openings.
Many of our
players are involved in other sports, music, and other activities. If you have
players involved with other activities, try to reach an agreement with them to
attend at least one practice per week and all games. Some children will just
not show up for practices without reason. If this happens, you can sit them
out at games. Be sure to tell them why you are doing this, and let the other
coach and the referee know. Discipline problems can be handled in the same
way. Start by penalizing them one quarter, and go to two if necessary. It is a
good idea to let their parents know what you are doing, too.
